Well what a day, Christmas lunch at the punch bowl, what a triumph. Myself and my family arrived to a lovely welcome, from carol, and staff, who were so friendly and accommodating.
Table looked very festive, drinks arrived promptly, so we could get in with our Christmas family quiz, food followed shortly, and was excellent from start to finish, each course was so tasty , fresh and well presented.
One of our party vegetarian and has a nut allergy, the manager even came to the table to give the ingredients to our girl, to reassure her their was no nuts in the dish, above and beyond service.
Thank you once again to all the staff at the punch bowl, see you next year. SandraA
My wife and I stayed at the above for a 1 night break before Christmas. And we were not to be disappointed, the room was lovely with a roll top bath and a rain shower.the bed was very comfortable. We ate in the restaurant that evening and the food again was 5☆.
The Lancashire cheese souffle my wife had was delicious, and the game terrine with its damson chutney was fantastic. We both had steak for our mains and that was cooked to perfect. With dripping fried chips and a smooth peppercorn sauce. As always the staff can't do enough for you. Adam the Manager is great and all his team are a great credit to him. Thank you. ChristopherO
The most beautiful soufflé(s) in the world.
We visited on Easter Sunday and were blown away by the amazing service and incredible food. We were seated in a lovely room with a roaring fire and large leather sofa in the centre which was fantastic for when our baby daughter fancied a roam around. She was welcomed really warmly by all the wait staff which is always a lovely positive thing for us. The drive up to the Punch Bowl is stunning and once you're inside it just gets better. We had the most wonderful meal. The cheese soufflé really kicked things off nicely, followed by a beautiful nut-crusted chicken and then the banana soufflé (I know, I know, quite a lot of eggs were consumed...) which was the best dessert I think I've ever had. Absolutely magic. There were lovely little touches such as handmade butter pats along with the bread and chilli spiked olives and beautiful complimentary truffles with coffee. The atmosphere is warm yet relaxed and the wine list is outstanding. We loved it!
Excellence as Standard.
We have visited the Punchbowl many times and had the luxury of staying over for a couple of nights in the Noble Room, which is a very spacious suite, with 2 baths! Everything about the Punchbowl oozes genuine charm and hospitality. The staff are fantastic, the food delicious, the accommodation elegant and the overall atmosphere, Amazing. This place is not cheap....but soooooo worth it! Enjoy.
The Perfect Wedding!
What a fabulous day everyone had at our exclusive wedding reception. All our hopes for our special day were surpassed, it was just perfect and we had the BEST time.
A huge and sincere thank you goes out to Judith for making our entire experience of planning & organising stress free, everything was carried out just as we wanted.
Brian and his team did a truly amazing job providing the most delicious food that our guests thoroughly enjoyed...…..what a treat!!!
Nothing was too much trouble for Adam and his staff. They looked after us and our guest's every need and became our guests...thank you.
Our guests, who were lucky enough to stay overnight, experienced the comfort and luxury that the Punch Bowl always provides. Our room 'Noble' in particular, was just wonderful.
All in all, we cannot praise the Punch Bowl highly enough for giving us a perfect day to remember. Kate & Geoff
Simply the best, better than all the rest!
The last time we visited was 2 years ago and it was amazing then, so as it was my boy's 18th, we drove over 100 miles for the occasion !!!
The place is in Crosthwaite and is best found using google maps, our sat nav sent us up someone's driveway, anyway we got there eventually.
The place is in a small village and is an oldy worldy pub with real wood fires, wooden beams and friendly staff. We were sat in the main area which was intimate but just right.
We ordered starters which were presented in a lovely way and tasted just as good. The mains and sweets were presented in the same manner and were faultless throughout. The food isnt plentiful but is of such a high standard that it is sufficient. The staff and everyone then sang Happy Birthday to my son who was suitably embarrassed. There were 7 in our group who all had 3 courses and drinks, albeit mainly cokes and the bill was very reasonable considering the presentation, quality and wonderful service.
If you fancy a special restaurant you need to give this place a try. BazD
An absolute must!
What a lovely place. We went to meet up with friends for an evening meal with our 2 boys (15 & 16). The food was just fantastic. Newie.
Loved our experience at Punchbowl.
Great food and wonderful warmth on a cold winter's day! Well worth the drive (and flight from Australia)! Such a great example of the English pub. We were lucky to grab a walk-in booking but would thoroughly recommend making the booking if you know you are in the area. Janet Y.
Perfect in every way.
Took my wife here for a treat we stayed for 1 night ,the scone for Afternoon tea was amazing? Mine was gluten free, the best gluten free scone I have ever had. We stayed in Noble suit.Wow,Wow,Wow.
Went there for lunch. Lovely place and just what I like a pub which serves excellent food. Nice bar (although quite small) serves good hand pulled beer. The food was absolutely excellent. This is definitely a gastro pub in my eyes. Cannot fault it and would certainly go again. They have bedrooms and I would be very tempted to stay as well though I did not see the rooms. MartinC
Incredibly accommodating & really friendly staff.
The food was exceptional & the atmosphere smart but relaxed. Highly recommend the cheese soufflé & blackberry soufflé. The steak wasn't bad either 😁 well worth a visit!
This was a really lovely place to stay. We had two nights there on a round trip of 1000 miles and it was definitely the best place we stayed at. This was an Alistair Sawday recommendation from one of his guides borrowed from the library. You start off with a cream tea on arrival (before 5.30 pm ) . All the rooms are named, not numbered, about eight of them I think. Everywhere decorated in Farrow and Ball colors, so very calming all round. Dining room is about three rooms serving a lot of locals who are there for the food and convivial atmosphere which sets the tone of the whole place. It is so rural that reception just inside the entrance door also serves as the local Post Office. Beautiful setting next to village church;ample car parking. Interesting long slate covered bar in between two of the dining rooms. There is no fiddling about with a kettle and filling it in the bathroom to make a cup of tea - instead, at any time you want it you phone Reception and a tray of tea or coffee is delivered to where you are. Friendly, helpful staff all the time. Richard
Best in Cumbria.
Another return visit to The Punchbowl and possibly the best meal yet. Had the Pork Tenderloin & Shoulder, Confit Cabbage, Apple and Mustard Jus main which was just perfect. Delicious flavour and crispy sage leaves fantastic. For pud I chose the Salted Caramel, Ginger, Pear, Milk Ice Cream and Honeycomb. It was superb and such a lovely combination of flavours. Staff always helpful and service unobtrusive and efficient. 10 out of 10 from me! A very happy diner. Elvisarron
Worth The Journey
First time visited on way back up country from Manchester and enjoyed the meal so this week we traveled down for a evening meal with friends.
The menu is well presented and truefully provided plenty of choice.
You could quite easily have three or four of the choices on offer.
Main course selection is just as good and all was very enjoyable. Phil B
We found this special pub/small hotel via a newspaper review. It really lived up to the review I had read. Lovely spacious room with great shower and roll top bath. Relaxing furnishings. Excellent evening meal - soufflé was first class as was rest of meal and good choice of wine. Breakfast again very good served by lovely staff. Definite tick for a return visit.
Visited the Punch Bowl on the recommendation of friends for our anniversary. This has to be the loveliest Inn and Restaurant in the whole of Cumbria everything about the Punch Bowl is to the highest standard. - the service from each the staff is beyond excellent and compares with that we have had in international hotels, food is fine dining with the meals presented in a original style making use of local suppliers for ingredients - choice of wines is comprehensive and compliment the menu - a must try is the cheese soufflé and the lemon tart .. they have to be the best ever tasted! Rooms are spacious, decorated to very high standard and visited daily by the excellent housekeeping staff. Location and views are breath-taking, the Inn is within easy travelling distance from Kendal, Windermere and Ambleside and has the added advantage of being central for some great walking trails. We will be visiting again in December for our friends wedding, but the Punch Bowl may draw us back before them - it was a truly great week. John
