An absolute must! What a lovely place. We went to meet up with friends for an evening meal with our 2 boys (15 & 16). The food was just fantastic. Newie-12 January 2018.
Excellent meal. Loved our experience at Punchbowl. Great food and wonderful warmth on a cold winter's day! Well worth the drive (and flight from Australia)! Such a great example of the English pub. We were lucky to grab a walk-in booking but would thoroughly recommend making the booking if you know you are in the area. Janet Y January 2018
Perfect in every way. Took my wife here for a treat we stayed for 1 night ,the scone for Afternoon tea was amazing? Mine was gluten free, the best gluten free scone I have ever had. We stayed in Noble suit.Wow,Wow,Wow. Alistair December 2017.
Delightful Lunch. Visited with friends again for lunch, this was our fourth visit and we have not been disappointed. Delicious food, very pleasant surroundings and attentive staff. Would highly recommend and will visit again. June D December 2017.
Fabulous - couldn’t fault it. We often visit the Punch Bowl for lunch or supper when visiting relatives in the area. We popped in for a drink on Christmas night and could not have been made to feel more welcome. Such a festive, lovely atmosphere and Adam, the barman was just brilliant, going above and beyond. The brief trip really made our Christmas and we’re now even bigger fans of the fab Punch Bowl! Hermione December 2017
My husband and I stayed overnight in the Danson room with lovely views down the valley, a spacious room, the bathroom has a freestanding bath and separate shower. The staff are very pleasant and helpful and the menu is varied. Dave Flo-S November 2017
We've spent a number of years staying in country inns in this area and finally found the perfect place. The rooms are beautiful, the food is absolutely wonderful and the location is just perfect with the tranquility of an ancient churchyard with bells ringing late on Sunday morning...just a beautiful place to be. IsabelS November 2017
First rate food and service. Excellent gourmet pub eatery. Wonderful menu. Highly recommend the twice baked cheese soufflé for starter. Amazing! And the lemon tart with damson Ice cream was extraordinary. LVS64 November 2017
"Incredibly accommodating & really friendly staff". The food was exceptional & the atmosphere smart but relaxed. Highly recommend the cheese soufflé & blackberry soufflé. The steak wasn't bad either 😁 well worth a visit! Lucy D October 2017.
"Relaxing dinner and overnight stay". From the moment we arrived we were welcomed by the lovely smiling receptionist who offered us a complimentary cream tea after seeing us to our room. We stayed in Cooper, a large airy room with a 4 poster bed, lots of nice touches and a huge bath as well as Molton Brown toiletries. We dined in the restaurant, once again excellent service, happy staff who couldn't do enough to accommodate us. I had the cheese soufflé starter which was sublime followed by cod loin, perfectly cooked and presented. I had a backcurrant soufflé to follow which disappeared like a marshmallow it was so light and delicious. Finally, a brandy in the bar, and some light-hearted banter with the Polish bar tender and waiter finished off a perfect evening and stay.......Thank you all at the Punch Bowl....we shall return! Sandrailly October 2017.
"Another Wonderful Stay". This was our third visit to the Punch Bowl and it always delivers fantastic service and food with exceptional staff. We stayed for two nights. We were too late for our cream team on the day we arrived, this was fine though, we could have it the following day and fresh coffee was brought to our room instead. Our dinner both nights was amazing, all cooked to perfection and the portion sizes are just right allowing you to enjoy your meal without feeling as though you've eaten too much. The staff here are always friendly and exceptionally good at what they do. You are made to feel welcome from the moment you arrive until you leave.
All in all, the Punch Bowl is a treat not to be missed. We will be back, just not to stay in Danson. SS September 2017.
"Best in Cumbria". Another return visit to The Punchbowl and possibly the best meal yet. Had the Pork Tenderloin & Shoulder, Confit Cabbage, Apple and Mustard Jus main which was just perfect. Delicious flavour and crispy sage leaves fantastic. For pud I chose the Salted Caramel, Ginger, Pear, Milk Ice Cream and Honeycomb. It was superb and such a lovely combination of flavours. Staff always helpful and service unobtrusive and efficient. 10 out of 10 from me! A very happy diner. Elvisarron September 2017.
"Fantastic, well worth it" We stayed for two nights in Hebblewhite and it was really lovely, a very nice room, very spacious and quiet. The pub has a lovely bar, great beers and the restaurant and food is magnificent. We enjoyed great wines with dinner and some good advice from the team. PBNE1888 August 2017
"Great meal and service". The meal was excellent along with the service. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone. Requests that were made were quickly executed without any further thought. I highly recommend this establishment to anyone looking for somewhere special to eat or take someone special to have a good meal. Tazjocks August 2017.
We found this special pub/small hotel via a newspaper review. It really lived up to the review I had read. Lovely spacious room with great shower and roll top bath. Relaxing furnishings. Excellent evening meal - soufflé was first class as was rest of meal and good choice of wine. Breakfast again very good served by lovely staff. Definite tick for a return visit. LoPont July 2017.
A delightful three days, including meals, at this exceptionally well-managed facility in the lower end of the Lake District. You get personal care and specific interest in customers only by getting the right values, habits and inclinations installed and preserved. There's a moving force guiding this business and it was impressive from start to finish. One correction: Someone referred to this inn's fare as "pub grub." That's just flat wrong. It is substantially better than that. This is a fully-staffed, intelligent kitchen kicking out creative meals. We didn't eat three dinners there for lack of an alternative. Would return in a heartbeat. Liked this place -- and its people -- a lot. Caperton GC. July 2017
"Beautiful location, impeccable decor, and welcoming staff". June 2017.
"Splendid Sunday". Met with old friends for a small birthday celebration. Staff attentive, pleasant and professional. Thoroughly enjoyed a three-course Sunday lunch with a stand-out roast beef for main plus a delightful chocolate tart. Good value for an excellent meal. June 2017. whatJDC69
Whats not to like! A group of 10 - we stayed for 1 night and had dinner in the restaurant. The rooms are generous with great ensuite bathrooms. Lovely linens and toiletries. The staff are very helpful and pleasant. The free cream tea on arrival was a lovely touch. Our meal was fabulous and a reasonable price too. As we were a large party we were sat in private dining area with its own lounge area which meant we didn't have to worry about disturbing other guests. Sharon B. May 2017.
Excellent food destination pub in beautiful surroundings. The Punch Bowl Inn lived up to our expectations and reviews on Trip Advisor are spot on, if you like excellent food in beautiful idyllic surroundings then this is the place to visit. We will certainly return in the future. DLMinsip. May 2017
We have been visiting The Punch Bowl for a number of years, indeed every time we were in the area. We just think the food, and pleasant elegant, but laid back, atmosphere are terrific. pmydon March 2017
We are very fortunate, because we live near this wonderful restaurant and can therefore dine quite often. In our opinion, this is the best restaurant in the South Lakes - and we have visited many, including some with a Michelin star. The meals are expertly created by the team in the kitchen and brought to the table by friendly and attentive staff. In addition to an extensive wine list, the bar serves well-kept real ales. A truly exceptional destination for dining. Roger. DG March 2017.
Lovely food & atmosphere". We popped in for a little lunch on Saturday The place is very welcoming, fairly relaxed and with friendly staff. We ate in the bar area with lovely fire and sofa papers & magazines the food was very good a nice treat. Restaurantcritic41 February 2017.
"Very enjoyable lunch". We went today 9/02/2015 for lunch. I had the crab risotto which was to die for. And my Husband surprised me by going for the beetroot risotto which surprised me!!!! But we both agreed both risottos were excellent. Service was exceptional and extremely friendly. Nice log fire burning and we appreciated that as it was a very cold day. We had a very, very enjoyable lunch and we will certainly be returning. Thank you. We really enjoyed our lunch. MrsDGB February 2017
