Set in the quiet village of Crosthwaite, The Punch Bowl has plenty of picturesque walks on its doorstep and stunning views around the Lyth Valley. This region, famous for its damsons, has made ‘The Lonely Planet Beautiful World List’, described as “tucked in a hidden corner of Cumbria, where trees are laden with fruit and rolling hills are the most magnificent green”. The Punch Bowl is only fifteen minutes drive to the stunning Lake Windermere.

ACTIVITES‘Must do’ walks include Gummer’s Howe and Scout’s Scar for amazing views, High Dam for its wild swimming tarn and The Fairfield Horseshoe, probably the best Wainwright. For even sportier types, there’s Fellfoot Watersports, Grizedale Forest Mountain Biking and Windermere Golf Club. For those with a more relaxed attitude, there’s Blackwell Arts & Crafts House, Windermere Jetty Museum and Sizergh Castle & Gardens. Finally, for stunning journeys, try Haverthwaite steam train combined with a lake cruise or the A591 drive to Keswick, voted England’s most scenic road.
